SOUNDSPACE : Not Bad Muzak

What do elevator music, Baby Shark, and sonic weapons have in common? They're all part of the 23rd edition of SoundSpace, our award-winning experimental music series. Using elevator music as a point of departure, the program will examine the aesthetics and implications of sounds that control: the polished sheen of call center “hold” music, the soothing tones of corporate Kmart public address cassettes in the late 1980s, the use of “Baby Shark” as a tool of interrogation and torture, and the sonic weapons experienced by diplomats in Cuba in 2017.

Yoga for Flutists

As musicians we know how athletic the mastery of an instrument can be. Hours upon hours of practicing repetitive finger patterns as well as the amount of energy we use creates fatigue and sometimes resistance in our bodies. In this class we will explore poses designed for flutists to optimize performance and explore a more relaxed and healthy approach to music making.
